Michael J. Dimnik

Michael was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta. He attended the University of Lethbridge graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree (With Distinction). He then attended the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1984. After receiving his law degree he returned home to Lethbridge to take his Articles of Law, and was admitted to the Bar of Law Society of Alberta in 1985. After developing an active legal practice, Michael established the law firm of Dimnik & Company in 1993.

Michael has always been involved in his community. His activities have included: Member and Chairman of two church councils; Lecturer for the Lethbridge Community College Public Legal Education and the Lethbridge Community College Entrepreneurial Centre; Director of the local chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association; First Vice-President of the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association; Member of the University of Lethbridge Senate; Member of the City of Lethbridge Community Services Planning Committee; Trustee and Chairman of the Lethbridge Roman Catholic Separate School District No. 9; inaugural Trustee of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Regional School Division No. 4; Member and Vice-Chair of the Lethbridge Regional Police Commission; Director and Vice-Chair of St. Michael's Health Centre; and Director and Chair of St. Michael's Housing Association.

Currently Michael is a member of the Board of Directors of Covenant Health of Alberta. As Canada' s largest Catholic provider of health care, Covenant Health has 16 facilities in 11 communities across Alberta with an annual budget of approximately $600 million, employing 9,100 staff and 850 medical staff and maintaining a total of 2,384 beds. In addition to being a Director, Michael is Chairman of the Governance Committee of the Covenant Health Board.

The practice of law has provided Michael with many interesting and challenging experiences over the years including acting as Standing Agent for the Attorney General of Canada (Department of Justice) during which time he had the responsibility for prosecuting offences involving illicit drugs, customs, immigration, income tax, satellite signal pirating and aeronautics. His practice has evolved over the last number of years and he is now practicing primarily in the area of residential and commercial real estate and land development, wills and estates and corporate and commercial law.

Michael is married to  Michelle, who is a school teacher with Lethbridge Public School District No. 51 and they have two daughters.
